Fancy a good voyage of discovery? Let your taste buds rule! The taste of Dalarna comes in many different forms and here we have collected nine that are a little extra distinctive. Find them through our tips or take part in them through your own excursions – there are many operators serving delicious Dala flavors.
- Falukorv. A classic that you find in every grocery store, originally created in the 16th century at the Falu Copper Mine.
- Dala cheese. Hard or soft, mild or flavorful. Among the Dala-made cheeses from Murboannas Ost or Stora Lunån , there is a cheese for all occasions.
- Soft flatbread. Flatbread, rolling bun, tuttul, lur, stitjôr. The cherished bread has many names and in Dalarna the soft flatbread seems to have an extra number of them.
- Crispbread. Visit Skedvi Bröd in Stora Skedvi and taste hand-baked crispbread straight from the ovens, or make a stop in the shop at the bakery at Leksands Knäckebröd.
- Reindeer. Feel the wild taste of dried reindeer meat or one of the other self-processed products from Renbiten in Idre.
- Ostrich. How about ostrich egg cake, freshly grilled ostrich burger or chocolate pralines with ostrich egg liqueur? Visit Sahlin's ostrich in Borlänge.
- The treasures of the forest. The Dala forests are full of delicacies that are taken care of and processed into sweet jams, marmalades and other goodies by, for example, Björgården's jam.
- World champion mustard. The mustard from LissEllas has won World Championship gold 12 (!) times. Available at several grocery stores and farm shops around Dalarna.
- Taste of Dalarna. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and taste experiences around Dalarna. Browse among the selection, preferably one of the gems within the food network Taste of Dalarna, and make an excursion (or several).
