In old trees and stumps, one can see traces of forest fires, which was a common natural disturbance in forests before human sconce fire became effective. Stenskrullens nature reserve is 47 acres. Wood is substantially bi-layer, which means that there are trees of two age groups. Most trees are around 150 years old, and there is an "older generation", where the oldest trees reach an age of 450-500 years! Forest type in the reserve is typical of ancient times dimension felling: Man felled only the trees that had attained a certain thickness, and left the tree with less bulk. Even though you will see traces of human interference in the forest, it has never been subjected to deforestation.
