On the templetun where the bishop of Nidaros (now Trondheim) to have preached the message of salvation was erected during the difficult depression years 1932-33 Idres fourth church.
No one knows for sure when the first church in Idre was built, but a clapboard church existed in 1624. This fell into disrepair and was demolished when a new church was built in 1842, designed by C. Ståhl. It lacked warmth and resembled an apartment building. A new church was inaugurated in 1914, but burned down in 1925. In 1933, the current church, designed by Knut Nordenskjöld, was built in a simple style with 250 seats and a large crucifix by Carl Fagerberg. The tower has three bells, two of which are from 1933 and one from 1875.
