Midsummer's Day, 1687 Step straight into history. It's Midsummer in Falun, and deep down in the copper mine something extraordinary is happening. An enormous collapse — one that should have claimed many lives — yet miraculously, not a single soul perished. It was the day every miner was away celebrating, and this is exactly where your evening begins. A Walk Through History You gather at the edge of the old mining area for a guided walk through Elsborg's historic wooden quarter. It was here, among the falu-red façades, that the miners lived, toiled, and on rare occasions celebrated. As you move through the streets, the stories come alive — tales of the people who lived in the shadow of the mine, and of the struggle for a decent life in the heart of Sweden's treasure chamber. The Taste of Bergslagen You leave the daylight behind and gather around a long, set table in a cellar by the river. Here the story continues through a carefully composed three-course dinner, where every plate carries a direct link to the food culture of the 17th century and the larder of Bergslagen. The meal is a tribute to genuine craftsmanship — from the silver of the lakes and the herbs of the meadows to the berries of the forest. Dishes reflect both the toil of everyday life and the rare radiance of celebration, with food history and symbolism woven between the bites. This is no ordinary guided tour. It is an evening to see, listen, and taste your way through history. What's Included • Guided walk through the historic Elsborg quarter (approx. 60 min, 1.4 km) • Three-course dinner inspired by 17th-century Bergslagen • Storytelling and food history throughout the evening The dinner is served at restaurant Plock, where chef Ted Stöffling has composed a three-course menu deeply rooted in the Bergslagen of the 1600s. Period-appropriate ingredients such as pickled fish, local meat, and wild berries — but in a modern and sophisticated interpretation. This is not a historical re-enactment of the simple meals of the past, but a tribute to the flavours and the craftsmanship behind them. Between courses, the experience deepens as we share the symbolism of the food and its actual place in history. Good to Know Duration: Approximately 3 hours (a 60-minute walk followed by a 2-hour dinner with storytelling). You are welcome to stay on at the restaurant after the guided part of the evening ends. Meeting point: Central Falun. Detailed instructions are sent after booking. The walk: 1.4 km through the Elsborg quarter on mixed surfaces, including cobblestones and gravel. Wear comfortable shoes. The route is accessible. Toilets: Available at the restaurant. There are no toilets at the meeting point or along the walking route. Language: This event is held in Swedish. English-language dates are available separately. Children: Children under 6 join free of charge (no ticket required). A reduced-price child ticket is available for ages 6–12. All children must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Weather: The walk takes place outdoors, please dress for the weather. The dinner is served indoors.
