Sunnansjö Hembygdsgård

The farm's buildings and collections represent both the mining community that for 300 years shaped the Grangärde region and the agricultural and forestry activities that have always existed in these areas, but which became the dominant industries after the ironworks declined in the late 1800s.

The Grangärde Heritage Association was founded in 1924, and the heritage farm began to be established a few years later. The migration of the Forest Finns to the Grangärde Finnmark during the 1600s also had some influence on the region's agriculture and forestry, as well as its cultural patterns, as evidenced by the collections. The oldest artifact at the heritage farm is a door from the early 1400s. It likely belonged to the chapel in Grytänge, which was a precursor to Grangärde church. There are also textile collections, and the region's own traditional costume, the Grangärde costume, is displayed in a separate exhibition.
