Söppenmyren Nature Reserve

Söppenmyren Nature Reserve is located next to urban areas and buildings, but is still a leafy and peaceful place. There are nice walking paths, pastures and several rest areas - a great area for both dog walking and family outings.

This nature reserve, located in the heart of Smedjebacken, is surrounded by the Kolbäcksån river that flows around the area. The reserve is a wetland and offers excellent picnic areas and barbecue facilities along the river. A walking trail through Söppenmyren and central Smedjebacken is also available. The organized path is 10.5 kilometers long and goes along the Kolbäcksån river through the scenic Söppenmyren on to Morgårdshammar, as well as past Väderbacken, Eriksberg and Hökarängen. Finally, the loop goes up behind the residential area Vinsbo, along the illuminated track to Smedjebacken, on to Herosvallen, and along the shore of Barken to the harbour. Birdwatchers can see species such as long-tailed, stonecrackers, white-tailed wagtails, white-throated starlings and kingfishers. Parking is available in several places around the reserve, but the most practical places are at Vassängsgatan or Väderbacksvägen in Morgårdshammar.
