A centrally located easy-to-hike tour for the family. About 1.5 km from Mora Church.
Start and end location: Left at the gravel field at Sandängarna, at Tuvan.
Length 6.4 km, circular loop.
Trail marking: Marked with white golf balls in a counterclockwise direction.
Time: About 2 hours.
Severity: Light, pretty much "flat".
Area: Mora central, Sandängarna. Topographic map 655, Mora
Environment:: Sand dunes, some miniature Denmark dunes at Lake Orsa. Mostly coniferous forest.
Directions: Take Älvdalsvägen road 70 and turn right towards the golf course, about 1 km from Mora church. Start the hike at the gravel field on the left side after a small bridge over the Sandäng Canal.
After just over a km on the hike, you reach Lake Orsa. Lovely sand dunes. Orsasjön and Orsälven on the left side of the path. There are small nice beaches to have coffee at and possibly take a swim. The course then runs along the golf course and by the Österdal River. At the end, just before the "finish", a rather anonymous place is passed in Mora. The site of the witch burning in 1669. A number of "witches", 15 of them, were burned here on the slope towards Mora by the river, about 30 children were beaten. The location was probably chosen so that the residents of Mora on the other side of the river would "take warning".
This tour is perfectly ok for jogging, walking, or Nordic walking. A family outing with coffee is recommended.
Visit Dalarna is not responsible for the trail or its maintenance. Keep in mind that the trails are affected by the season and weather, so please check the conditions before you set out on your hike.
