Midsummer in Leksand

Join the world's largest Midsummer celebration in the renowned Gropen.

Program for Midsummer Celebration in Gropen. 4:00 PM: Small Midsummer pole raising for children and adults at Leksand’s heritage farms by the church, with Leksand Folk Dance Group. 7:00 PM: Church boats with musicians, folk dancers, the church choir, flower garlands, and wreaths for the Maypole row down the river. Disembarkation at the southern bridge landing. Following this, a procession across the bridge, past Norsgatan towards Gropen. 7:45 PM: Raising of the Maypole in Gropen. Participants: Nioliv, Leksands Folk Dance Group, Leksands Folk Music Group and Kulturskolans Folk Music Group. Traditional dances and circle games with Anders Tull. The program will include sign language interpretation. 10:00 PM: Barn dance at Leksands Heritage Gardens. Performers: John and Sofie. During Midsummer, there is a lot of activity in central Leksand, which affects traffic flow. Several roads will be closed during the weekend, and parking is limited.
