The main part of Residenset, the residence of the lord-lieutenant of the county, dates from c.1730. Like many others, it was damaged by the town fire of 1761 but was refurbished immediately.
In 1791, the then incumbent, Johan af Nordin, had works done to both the exterior and interior, giving it the appearance it has today. The building, which has belonged to the State since 1812, has one of the most outstanding interiors of any building in Sweden.
