Malingsbo-Kloten offers large areas of forests, lakes and watercourses. There are also many kilometers of trails and paths.
Old mill land
The village of Malingsbo has its origins in an ironworks established in the 1620s. The mill was closed down in 1891, but more than four centuries of mining, iron processing, agriculture and, above all, forestry, have left their mark on the area's vegetation and buildings. Of the mining and ironmongering facilities, only a few buildings, ruins and other remains remain. The dominance of the coniferous forest landscape is broken here and there by openings in the forest, where small-scale agriculture is still conducted.
Outdoor life both winter and summer
Due to its natural conditions and its location close to the Mälardalen valley, the Malingsbo-Kloten area is of great value for outdoor life. There are cycling and hiking trails, and nice waters for fishing and canoeing have made Malingsbo a very popular area. Malingsbo-Kloten has been a popular outdoor recreation area since the 1970s. Discover large undeveloped, but easily accessible forest areas with lakes and streams and a long winter period with safe snow access. The area also has a wide range of holiday villages, campsites, canoe waters and hiking trails.
Nature
The Malingsbo-Kloten nature conservation area is a highland and hilly coniferous forest area, located in the central parts of Bergslagen. The area is rich in lakes and ponds and there are also smaller marsh areas. The nutrient-poor bedrock leaves its mark on the vegetation, which predominantly consists of coniferous forest. It is also home to many of the country's most interesting water landscapes with both freshwater pearl mussels and naturally reproducing char. The area consists of several thousand hectares of forest land, lakes and marshes in the southwestern part of Smedjebacken municipality. The area will also continue in Örebro and Västmanland counties.
