The village is situated at a high elevation with miles of views in several directions. Here, you can see terraced fields on the mountainside, cultivated through slash-and-burn agriculture, most famously associated with the early Finnish settlers.
Within the village area, there is an old timber barn (from the 1500s to early 1600s) and a hearth mound from the earliest residential house.
There were once 34 buildings, with several foundations still remaining today. Additionally, there are well-preserved stone walls that will be cleared of the dark spruce forest. An information board on-site provides historical details and pictures.
The earliest known miner by name is Olof Hansson, born around 1575. At least two more generations can be added, considering that the furnace was described as ancient in the 1600s.
From the farm area, a trail leads over Trollugnsberget with a view extending to the end of the lake Stora Norn, Norns Bruk. Here, you'll also find the so-called troll oven, where your imagination can run wild. Valborgsmäss-hällarna (follow the trail markers).
