Autumn is the most beautiful season to be out in nature, when the leaves shift in red and yellow. The temperature drops and you can enjoy fresh mornings as you whizz along one of the mile-long bike trails that stretch through Dalarna's beautiful landscape. We have gathered tips on Siljan's best cycling/mountain biking areas, so put on your helmet and get ready to pedal away in the crisp autumn air!
Biking Dalarna is a collaboration between cycling areas in Dalarna, and together they work to be able to offer you fantastic adventures and experiences by bike. They have a common system for trail marking and grading, both for downhill and cross-country. Enjoy Dalarna's dizzyingly beautiful landscape and a true cycling paradise.
1. Cycling for young and old in Siljansnäs
Winding country roads that take you past Falun red houses with white corners, untouched nature and the blue waters of Lake Siljan. To be able to whizz along on the bike here so that the wind howls in your ears is a dream for many, the combination of fantastic trails and the area's cultural landscape beckons. There are four well-marked cross-country trails that together offer over 30 km of varied cycling, mostly on natural trails and forest roads. There are both easy and intermediate trails that are perfect for active families with children.
2. Classic cycling in the Vasaloppet Arena
Is there any race more popular than Vasaloppet? The answer is no, at least in Dalarna. Mostly known as the world's largest ski race, the arena is also perfect for mountain biking. For those who want to enjoy the Vasaloppet Arena on Vasa's road through the landscape, there are three trails that together offer 90 km of cycling. Two of the trails are green, and one of these takes you the classic loop from Sälen to Mora on gravel roads and paths. Tjärnhedsrundan is a black trail that takes you on a circular loop with challenging trail cycling, and cycling here can be an exciting adventure even for the experienced cyclist.
3. The bicycle paradise Orsa Grönklitt
Orsa Grönklitt is known as a winter paradise for skiers, but during the summer there are fantastic mountain biking opportunities here. In the deep forests you will find blue, green and red cross-country trails of over 50 km, lift-borne cycling and a playful skills area. It is also possible to train and develop your technique on the slalom slopes or the forest. There is also a flow trail of 2 km. Nearby is the Cross-Country Centre, where you can rent a bike if you don't have one of your own. Enjoy the views from the summit hut before heading out on the trails, and don't forget a cooling bath in Rädsjön after the bike ride.
4. Enticing trails at Jarlstugan
At Ik Jarl in Rättvik you will find six trails of over 60 km in varying degrees of difficulty, so it is a perfect area for those who want to test and try their way around. The blue trails offer trail cycling on smooth pine heaths and the red trails take you along both paths and illuminated trails with elements of roots. There is also a black trail that is technically demanding in hilly terrain that is guaranteed to raise your heart rate. Rättvik is also a tourist resort of rank and visitors attract not only cycling fans, but also music lovers, car nostalgics and nature lovers with their beautiful surroundings.
