Avesta Bison Park
Avesta, Gammelängsvägen 7In Avesta Bison park you will meet the magnificent, mighty and awe-inspiring prehistoric animal, eye to eye. An endangered European species of bison.
The bison lived during the Bronze Age in the Swedish deciduous forests throughout southern Sweden right up to the huge forests in Tiveden and Kolmården. The bison then disappeared sometime during the early Middle Ages from the Swedish fauna. Perhaps they will again roam freely in the Swedish forests, but until then you are welcome to visit the bison in Avesta municipality's own breeding center for the preservation of the mighty animal.
In large enclosures surrounding a farmhouse from the turn of the last century, the endangered animals can be viewed. Avesta Visentpark has around 30 animals that walk in two herds in their own large natural enclosure.
