Welcome to Smedjebacken

In Smedjebacken, nature and industrial history exist side by side. In the Malingsbo-Kloten nature reserve, one of Sweden's most celebrated canoeing paradises awaits, with 100 km of canoe trails in near-pristine wilderness. Strömsholms Canal is one of Sweden's most unique waterways, with 26 locks and 100-metre change in elevation, built in the 18th century to transport iron from Bergslagen to Stockholm.

The canal is part of Ecomuseum Bergslagen, which also includes Flogberget Mine where you can take guided tours. Throughout the municipality, the mining environments and cultural traces tell the story of a region shaped by iron and fire for generations. You can also visit the art hall Meken, where contemporary art, design and crafts are exhibited year-round.
