Nils Olsson Dala horses

In the village of Nusnäs outside Mora, perhaps the world's most famous horse is produced – the Dala horse. At the Dala horse production at Nils Olsson Dalahästar, you get to follow the journey from piece of wood to finished painted horse up close.

In the workshop outside Mora, the Dala horses have been made by hand with great skill since 1928. The tradition of carving Dala horses is of course older than that, but it was at the end of the 1920s that the brothers Nils and Jannes Olsson started the first small Dala horse factory in their home village. Since then, the Dala horse from Nusnäs has spread around the world and become a well-known symbol of Sweden. Guided tour of Dala horse production At Nils Olsson Dalahästar, you get a unique insight into the entire manufacturing process – from raw wood to finished painted masterpiece. Feel the scent of freshly sawn wood, watch skilled craftsmen shape and decorate each horse. Visitors are welcome to walk around the workshop on their own and you can ask questions to the knowledgeable craftsmen who work with their particular part of the chain. No need to pre-book. It is also possible to paint your own Dala horse. In the shop there is a large selection of Dala horses in different sizes, colours and models as well as other products such as clogs. Take the opportunity to buy a nice memento from your visit to Dalarna. In the summer, there is also a café with coffee, ice cream and light lunches. During selected summer weeks, it is possible to join a guided tour. Days and times as well as booking can be found under "Book".
