Sifferboberget Skalberget Nature Reserve

South of Lake Gimmen are the two mountain peaks; Sifferboberget and Skalsberget. Here an old forest grows with a lot of dead wood. It benefits many different plants and animals, which therefore thrive here. People also thrive, as they can walk on trails and rest under windbreaks. Sifferboberget-Skalsberget is a scenic place. The proximity to several urban areas between Borlänge and Gagnef contributes to the area being important for outdoor activities.

Description

At the top of Skalsberget a slogbod (windbreak) is locaded with a fire pit. A hiking trail of about 7.8 km has also been built in the area. The path has been planned based on both parking spaces, so that visitors can reach the slogboden regardless of which of the two parking spaces is used. The hiking trail, when it was built, has used existing paths through the area.

In the northern slope, spruce forest grows. The eastern part consists of a mountain slope overgrown with pine forest in the upper parts, while the element of spruce increases down the slope. The forest is on average 150 years old. The western part and the central parts as well as a key biotope in the south consist mainly of pine forest. There, the oldest trees are over 170 years old.

There are also two smaller wetlands in the area, together only about two hectares in size. One hectare is an area of ​​one hundred times one hundred meters.

Directions

From Borlänge take road E16 north. Follow the E16 for about 15 km. Turn right on Gamla landsvägen (Sign Sifferbo stugby och B&B). Turn left towards Gimmenvägen, continue onto Gimmenvägen for about 3 km. Turn right, continue approx. 400 m. Turn left and continue approx. 1.6 km.

The area is located between Gagnef and Borlänge, about 13 km northwest of Borlänge and just over 6 km northeast of Djurås. Note! During the spring the roadblocks are locked to reduce wear on the road - welcome back when the roads are dry.
