It was in this beautiful setting that Carl Larsson lived and found inspiration for many of his paintings. The area is rich in imposing manor houses and estates, including Östborn (c.1740), and Kolbergsbo, Stora Karlborn and Lövnäs (c.1830-9).

It was in this beautiful setting that Carl Larsson lived and found inspiration for many of his paintings. The area is rich in imposing manor houses and estates, including Östborn (c.1740), and Kolbergsbo, Stora Karlborn and Lövnäs (c.1830-9). The river valley is also home to the splendid Stora Hyttnäs estate in Sundborn and the Lilla Hyttnäs estate, better known as the Carl Larsson estate. An old village and a fascinating wooden church built c.1750 are distinctive features of this beautiful valley.
