Vattnets väg Puttbo - Kråkmyran - Källslätten 12 km

This 12-kilometre-long round is part of the three-kilometre-long trail system "Water's Way to the Mine" west of Falun. The trail is a perfect day trip that offers both beautiful nature and a lot of cultural history. A hike here is a good way to gain insight into how the Falun mine has affected the landscape even at great distances from Stora Stöten itself. Along the trail you will find information signs that tell you about the mine's need for hydropower and the ways in which it was solved several hundred years ago.

Start and end location: A good starting point is Puttbo minersgård. Length: 12 km Trail markings: The marking consists of wooden sticks with blue paint at the top and the symbol for the trail system Water Road to the Mine, which consists of a water wheel. Be careful at intersections because the Vattnets väg trail system is large and has several different loops. Environment: The tour is mainly in woodland. At Hemmingsbo and Källslätten, the forest opens up and turns into pastures. The surface along the trail consists partly of paths and partly of gravel roads. Parking: At Puttbo miner's farm there is a parking lot on a gravel field. Along the way, you will also pass several beautiful and peaceful places. One is the lookout bench on Igeltjärnsberget where you can see Falun in the distance on clear days. Another is the small bog Kråkmyran where there is a wind shelter and fireplace. You will also come to Källslätten, a former miner's farm where only the garden and farmland remain today. Källslätten has been designated a Natura 2000 area because the site has become an important habitat for many plants and animals that have been displaced by modern forestry and agriculture. Feel free to go counterclockwise and expect some hills. Especially noticeable is the climb over Igeltjärnsberget. The altitude you gain here you get again during the last kilometers of the hike when you walk a lot downhill back towards the starting point. If you want, you can extend the hike slightly by walking via Säljebo and Karsbotjärnen. The extra loop provides more hiking on the trail and you pass another wind shelter next to Karsbotjärnen's beach. Visit Dalarna is not responsible for the trail or its maintenance.
