Beautiful, varied and exciting hiking trail in mountain nature. Flat plateau scales to more characteristic peaks.
Starting location: The trail starts from Högfjällshotellet in Sälen and stretches north through the northern Transtrandsfjällen nature reserve.
Length: 165 km.
Hike via Östfjället and Källfjället to the Transtrandsfjällen nature reserve. Then the trail passes the Görälven river and continues through the Skaråsfjällen nature reserve. Continue up over Fulufjället National Park. Then down towards Gördalen, further through Drevfjällen nature reserve via Id-Perssätern and Röskåsen to Flötningen. After that, the trail continues with a large proportion on gravel roads before reaching Långfjället nature reserve. From Grövelsjön, the Southern King's Trail goes over Långfjället to Hävlingen and then touches Töfsingdalen National Park and finally crosses the county border just east of Slugufjället.
At times very wet to hike and at times inadequately marked. This trail is for the experienced hikers who can manage on their own and can handle their equipment in all weathers. There are a few overnight cabins but tents are necessary as well as your own provisions. Water is available to varying extents, fill up where there are streams. Read more about the cottages via the link below.
Keep in mind that the trail largely runs in nature reserves and national parks where special rules apply. Read up on these before you head out. See link below.
