Sälen Botanical

A real visitor's gem in Sälenfjällen - Sweden's highest mountain botanical garden. The garden is run by the non-profit association Sälen's Mountain Botanical Friends and currently has more than 1,800 marked plants.

The garden covers about 4000 square meters and here you will find plants from Scandinavia, with a focus on the Sälen mountains, but also alpine plants from the rest of Europe and an exciting Öland Alvar. Sälen's Mountain Botanical Friends is a non-profit association, founded on January 1, 2019, with the purpose of running Sälen Botanical and thereby strengthening the mountain adventure at the start of the Southern King's Trail. The association is registered and a member of the Swedish Botanical Society. Everyone is welcome to become a member of the association to support the development of Sälen Botanical and promote botanical interest. Sponsors with a nature and sustainability mindset are important for the non-profit Association to be able to develop Sälen Botanical. The garden is connected to the Southern King's Trail by a gravel path. In the Garden's ravine there are paths with gravel or wooden footbridges. Adaptation to people with disabilities takes place gradually. At the bench tables, it is possible to have coffee. In fine weather, there is a fantastic view of Högfjällshotellet and far east in Dalarna. There is no entrance to the Garden, but you can walk just as easily there as in the mountains in general with the right of public access.
