Dalarna museum in Falun is a county museum where the cultural treasures and history of Dalarna are presented in an accessible manner for all ages and interests. Dalarna traditions and history has a special place in the hearts of Swedes, and this becomes apparent as you wander through this large and well-presented museum. The extra measures that we have taken in the museum buildings are the following: Plexiglass screen at the receptionist’s desk and counter. No cash. Payment by card or Swish only. Regular cleaning of card reader, counter and door handles throughout the day. Extra cleaning of public bathrooms, in addition to our regular routines. Extra cleaning of the museum shop, in addition to our regular routines. Restricted number of visitors in the building to 50 persons at any given time. For narrow passages and rooms in the exhibitions, please follow the posted signs and instructions. Access to certain areas has also been restricted. Restricted group sizes for guided tours to 8 persons per tour to ensure the possibility of adequate physical distance throughout the tour. Audio guides and digital study stations in the exhibitions have been replaced with QR codes which can be scanned with your own mobile phone. The museum is open during the summer from 13 June 2020.
The museum has one of Sweden’s biggest collections of Dalarna folk paintings, folk music, folk costumes, handicrafts and prints. The museum started collecting objects in 1862 and it now has 20,000 groups, with around 60,000 objects in total – you won’t see all of them, but you can try.
Selma Lagerlöf´s library from her home in Falunhas been rebuilt in the museum.
There is also a museum shop with gifts for all occasions and celebrations. Among other things, there are gift items, souvenirs, dala horses of different sizes and colors. There is also a selection of literature with Dala connection.
