Tunabygdens Gammelgård - Local Heritage Museum

Welcome to Gammelgården, one of Swedens largest folk museum. This unique open-air museum tells the story of Borlänges history. It´s an oasis with 35 buildings and thousands of objects to see.



Among the many historical houses are a forge, a mill and a barn. There is also a worker’s cottage dating from the early 1800s and a school museum.

The birthplaces of the world-famous tenorJussi Björling and the psalm writer Johan Olof Wallin have been moved here as well. All buildings are open for booked guided tours during the summer.

At Gammelgården there are a number of events every year, such as midsummer-celebrations, christmas fairs, dance-evenings, open air services, weddings and theaters.

The restaurant and café "Gammelgårdens café & kök" is open during may-september. They use locally produced and ecological products. Come by for a swedish fika, or if you are hungry, a good sandwich or sallad. For hot summer-days there is ice-cream from the popular brand Rättviks Glass. The restaurant take bookings all year round for weddings, baptisms, memorials and other events. Book through the phone number above.

Walk or bicycle, follow the cycle-path down next to the arena Domnarvsvallen towards the river, and you will se Gammelgården on your left.

By car, park for free on the parkinglot south of the street Stenhålsgatan. Walk through the tunnel to the other side of the road to reach Gammelgården.
