Snowshoes get you out and about
Snowshoeing is becoming increasingly popular in Sweden. Snowshoes have been around for millennia and the lightweight, modern versions let you negotiate otherwise impassable terrain.
If your tastes are gourmet, join a Gastronomy Walk with Explore Sälen – a guided tour during which you get to sample some of Dalarna’s best locally-produced food and drinks. There are more opportunities for snowshoe-walks in e.g. Yttermalung and Rättvik.
Try something new
Snowbiking is a combination of cycling and skiing which provides a unique experience on the slopes. You can hire a snow bike with Explore Sälen and after a 30-minute crash course you’re ready to hit the slopes. Recommended from 6 years.
In Kläppen you can try out snowtubing – an activity that’s great fun for all the family and is easy to do whatever your age or physique. Forget too-tight ski boots and aching thighs, ride the slopes on a snow tube instead! A snow tube is a bit like a tractor inner tube with a plastic base. You whizz down our specially-built snow course as you would on a water slide ride and once you get to the bottom you just take the lift back up to the top again.
Spark it up!
Enjoy a wonderful winter experience kick-sledding on the ice or over wintery forest tracks. Kick sleds, or ‘sparks’, are large, light wooden sleighs with two long metal runners. You can rent a spark at several locations, including:
- Dala-Floda Värdshus, Dala-Floda
- Stiftsgården, Rättvik
- Bjursås Ski Center, Bjursås/Falun
