Welcome to Öje
Öje is a small village that lies 17 km north of the town of Malung in Dalarna and on the E45 motorway towards Mora. The same-name lake is sometimes described as; ‘the lake with as many islands as there are days of the year’. Not quite true; but it is dotted with many islands that lend it its special character.
Skaters are welcome to enjoy the prepared track that starts at Öje Camping & Bathing. If ice conditions allow, you can start your skating trip 12 km south of Öje at Hånäset. There are several rest spots, with windshields and outside toilets, and there is wood available for making a barbecue. The track is prepared by Öje IF.
The Vita Älgen restaurant is in the village, about 750 metres walk from the camping site. All the dishes are homemade and the restaurant is open weekdays for lunch during the winter season. You can also book the restaurant for other times if you are part of a group of several people.
The village of Öje also has a cosy hostel with 11 rooms and 35 beds and is beautifully located by Ogströmmen river. At the Öje Tourism Centre and Hostel there are pitches for caravans, with electrical hook-up, and hard standings available for motor homes.
