- Visiting address: Södra Vällanvägen, 79161 Falun
Sanders old forest is a magical forest with old trees and soft moss. A forest full of mystery, silence and experiences. Follow the path and enter the twilight under the spruce forest and enjoy the scents and birdsong of the forest. Or sit for a while on one of the rest benches and listen to the rustle of the wind in the treetops.
Sanders old forest has not been affected by forestry for a long time and the forest has developed in a way that benefits many plants and animals. The trees have been allowed to grow free and old. It has created a variety of trees of different varieties, ages and sizes.
The variety of trees and the availability of dead wood in Sanders old forest means that many species that do not find their habitat in a other forest thrive in the reserve. Here are several red-listed fungi and other species that are unusual today. On or under the trees you can find fungi such as wrinkles or rose ticks and in the spruces, three-toed woodpeckers climb around in search of spruce bark beetles.
In autumn, the funnel chanterelles can be found the moss and at the foot of the old spruces grows the knee root, an orchid with evergreen leaves. There is a lot to discover for those who have their eyes on them!
In the area there are several trails for hiking, marked in orange. There are three
loops to choose from. From the car park to the rest area with a fireplace, the path is adapted for prams. Other trails are adapted for hiking. Along the paths there are resting tables, resting benches and reference signs.
