The reserve, which is 14 acres, consists mainly of different aged pine forest. In wetter areas dominated spruce. The oldest trees are about 350 years old and on them there are traces of forest fires. Capercailzie is common in Nysätern. At some damp trails along a creek in the eastern part of the area are spruce, the dominant tree species. The vegetation here is more rich in herbs. The terrain in the area slopes slightly to the northeast and the bedrock consists of Dala sandstone with a blanket of till. In the reserve there are traces of logging. Among other things, performed a small cut in the early 1920's. Forest road in the northeast is the reserve boundary.
