Muddus Hjortron & Kolarbo Gård B&B
Muddus Hjortron (Muddus Cloudberries) is a company that produces jam, marmalade, mulled wine (glögg) and chocolate cream. The whole production is located in a beautiful farm in Kolarbo, Avesta. The farm has a newly opened and newly built Bed & Breakfast.
At our new, yet old-fashioned, farm we have always pursued to maintain the old-fashioned atmosphere, which is present in the rooms as well as in our restaurant/café. The bathrooms, though, are very modern with new tiles on the walls and the floor.
The surroundings are unbelievably beautiful. It is such a joy to live here! The morning walks across the fields or in the woods often surprise you with exciting encounters with deer or moose.
The forest is full of funnel chanterelle and berries. Borrow one of our boats and take a lovely fishing trip. Or maybe you just want to spend the evening down by the lake, at the fireplace.
In our production we solely use wild berries which we buy from suppliers. We make jam, marmalade and mulled wine, and we also have production of chocolate cream in different tastes. We strive for not having any additional ingredients, nor diluting our products.
After having driven the company for 20 years in Gällivare, in Norrland, we thought it was time for some change. The fact that Katarina had a family estate in southern Dalarna, settled it all. Lars and Katarina brought their children and their dog, and even the company, and moved the 1 080 kilometers south. On the farm there was an old cowshed, which now is totally renewed and this is where the production is located.
The farm is located just outside the village of Fors, 17 kilometers outside Avesta.
The name, “Muddus Hjortron”, derives from the national park Muddus, which is located east of the mountains in the middle of Norrbottens county, where Lars grandfather Henning worked as a forest guard.
Lars’ father started to boil cloudberry jam in a small studio in central Gällivare, where they lived. Then Lars and Katarina took over the business and the company has grown steadily ever since.
