Hair jewellery in Våmhus, Mora

Already in the 18th century, jewelry of hair was the highest fashion in Europe. The women in Våmhus and Bonäs learned the secret techniques and from the beginning of the 19th century they were merchants in many large cities in northern Europe. When the hair jewelery became outdated and the women cut their hair short, it was no longer profitable for the wig makers to make them. Thanks to the women from Våmhus, the art has been preserved to this day.

Persons working with hair jewelry can normally be seen working at Gammelgården in Våmhus - Sivarsbacken but NOT during summer 2020 due to Covid-19 and all year at Myrans Hemslöjd in Våmhus.
