The Skinners’ Play -The Wondrous Fleece

The Skinners’ Play -The Wondrous Fleece

The Skinners’ Play ”The Wondrous Fleece”, which is set up every summer in Malung, involves the typical local skinners. During the play they manufacture the fleece which will reward whoever ingeniously wins the hand of the rich and insolent farmer’s daughter, Britta. Lustigs Per passes the test, dressed as a farm hand, and Britta has to accept him as such.

Description

This is a light-hearted play full of dances and songs, including the well-known Midsummer Song. Whilst writing the play in 1967, Rune Lindström cooperated with Jan Johansson, perhaps Sweden’s most famous jazz musician and composer. Some of the leading jazz profiles in Sweden are in the band. The mix of jazz and folk in Jan’s music is central to the theme of this musical, borrowed from Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.
