Flotarleden
Show mapThe hiking trail runs between the forest lake Ekfänn and the Västerdal River and is 13.5 km long.
Starting place: The trail starts in Dala-Floda or Björbo.
To the start, you can take a bus, drive, walk or cycle. If you choose a car, you drive through the village of Mossel and along the lake Närsen. After that, it is signposted to the starting point. If you take a bus, you get off at Ica in Dala-Floda. You can also walk or cycle from Ica in Dala-Floda. You then start on Kvarnaleden and the cultural pearl Kvarna with its unique mill environment. From there you follow the Fäboden trail along which people buffered (brought animals to the Fäboden). Back from Fänforsen, you can advantageously choose the church path (12 km) which used to be walked from Björbo to Dala-Floda.
If you choose to cycle, there is a cycle path on the eastern bank of the Västerdalälven between Björbo and Dala-Floda.
Difficulty: Easy/Medium. It is a varied surface with paths, ruts and dirt roads.
Description: It works well to walk the trail in both directions. Parking is available at the start of the hike or if you choose to start from Dala-Floda, there is parking by the church and by Ica.
The trail comes out just upstream from Fänforsen in the Västerdalälven. Along the trail at the dams there is information about rafting and how life was when rafting along the trail. The mines and sawmills' extensive need for timber and energy created these systems of raft routes.
The forest was a living place full of people who toiled with the forest, with the shack farm or wandered to sell goods or their services.
The walk is reminiscent of a special era in industrial development and of the uncompromising toil in industry as well as in Fäbodbruk. The trail is built on the paths that once ran along the raft trail. You can paddle a canoe in the water along the trail.
The trail takes you from Ekfännsberget with the beautiful farmsteads to Fänforsen in Björbo. The trail takes you over a forest road, path and ridge in the forest and over a bog.
